Burlesque
Burlesque is a special form of performance art characterized by the artist's subjectivity and a wide range of visual techniques, an essential component of which is undressing during the performance.
A burlesque act is most often performed solo and consists of a spectacular performance by the artist lasting about five minutes, during which she may sing, dance, perform magic tricks, twirl in an aerial hoop... all the while undressing (but never completely!). Undressing is not the goal of the act, but a visual tool used by the performer to convey a particular idea.
Burlesque as we know it today developed from the theatrical and satirical performances of women in the Victorian era. The performers joked on stage, performing various skits, and amazed, outraged, and delighted the audience with their audacity and wit.
Today, this bizarre art form is not only popular but also feminist. The focus is always not on the body, beauty standards, or the sexual charge of the act, but on the charisma and individuality of the performer.
